It was the news that all Collingwood fans were wanting to hear as former pick six Matthew Scharenberg has put pen to paper on a new three year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2018 season.

Scharenberg attracted interest from both Adelaide and Port Adelaide nearing the end of the season and coming out of contract, speculation started to grow that the talented running defender was going to head home.

The 19 year old, who turns 20 tomorrow, made his debut this season after struggling to overcome injury in his first season at the Holden Centre.

Scharenberg averaged 15 disposals from his four games this season and is well and truly in future plans for Nathan Buckley and the Collingwood Football Club.
