Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury believes the Anzac Day blockbuster against Essendon will provide the perfect opportunity for the beleaguered Magpies to put their AFL season on track.

Pendlebury spoke to reporters outside the MCG on Tuesday and said there was an almost palpable sense of frustration and anger amongst the players at the club's disappointing 1-3 start to the season.

Despite suffering a shock 35-point loss to Melbourne last week, Pendlebury feels Collingwood turned a corner against the Demons.

But he says they will still need a more-rounded, four-quarter effort than they've produced to date if they're to defeat the Bombers.
